Shell Lake Arts Center Receives Donation Of Grand Piano

Shell Lake Arts Center Receives Donation Of Grand Piano

WASHBURN COUNTY -- The Shell Lake Arts Center wishes to thank Mary McConnell of Cable, WI for her generous donation of a Knabe Grand Piano to be used during rehearsals and concerts at the Center throughout its 52nd camp season and beyond.  Executive Director Tara Burns stated," What a wonderful and generous donation of a Knabe Grand Piano.  This will be a treasure at the Arts Center for our performers and students to use for many years to come. "

Though this particular piano will stay at the Arts Center, the organization's Sharing the Music Program takes donated pianos, refurbishes them, and through an application process, can provide a piano to an organization or individual in need, with no cost to the recipient. Preference is given to institutions, organizations, churches or schools that will use them in a way that provides music to the widest number of people.  Individual teachers, accompanists, and performers are also eligible!  According to Steve Carlson, Coordinator of the Sharing the Music Program, as of December 2018, the Sharing the Music Program has placed over 30 pianos with organizations and individuals in need throughout the program's existence.

To apply, simply fill out the “Sharing the Music Application” located on the Shell Lake Arts Center's website (https://www.shelllakeartscenter.org/about-us/sharing-the-music), and include a short letter describing the organization or individual, why there is a current need for the piano, and an estimate of the number of people who will benefit from this gift.  If you are a successful applicant, the Arts Center will arrange for the piano to be moved to your location (cannot be moved up or down full flights of stairs).

If you know of someone who has a piano to donate to the program, please check out the“Sharing the Music” tab on their website for guidelines and procedure.  Pianos manufactured after 1945, and in reasonably good shape, can be considered for donation.  Steve Carlson from Keyboard Crafts in Shell Lake, WI will arrange to assess your piano, and if suitable, have it picked up for further assessment and restoration if needed.  Donations are tax-deductible!  For more information, please visit the Arts Center’s website at www.shelllakeartscenter.org or call 715-468-2414.
