Shell Lake Man Charged with Trafficking Meth Following Sawyer County Investigation

A Shell Lake man has been charged in Sawyer County Circuit Court following a 2-month long methamphetamine trafficking investigation.

According to public record, Daniel McClaine has been charged with 2 counts of Class F Felony Manufacture/Deliver Amphetamine, and 1 count of Class F Felony Possession with Intent/Amphetamine.

A press release issued by the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office on July 19, 2017 stated in the course of their investigation, methamphetamine was purchased from McClaine and that when he was arrested, he was in possession of methamphetamine.

On July 18, 2017 McClaine was placed on a $10,000 cash bond. Public record indicates that McClaine appeared in August 3, 2017 in Sawyer County Circuit Court. A preliminary examination hearing was scheduled, however, McClaine's defense attorney was not able to be present, so the hearing will be held on another date.

If convicted as charged, McClaine could face a maximum of 12 years and 6 months confinement in state prison on each count.

McClaine remains in the custody of the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office at the time of this post.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

On June 17, 2017, Sawyer County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Daniel D. McClaine, age 48, of Shell Lake, WI. The arrest was a result of a two-month long investigation into McClaine's alleged involvement in the trafficking of Methamphetamine in Sawyer County. During the investigation, methamphetamine was purchased from McClaine and he was found to be in possession of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest. You are advised that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation was conducted by the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office, The Washburn County Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by the Sawyer County District Attorney's Office.
