SHELL LAKE, WI — Todd Felhofer, Superintendent of the School District of Shell Lake, joined Ben Dryden on DrydenWire Live Tuesday morning to discuss the district’s upcoming April 7 operational referendum and the financial challenges facing the district.
During the February 24, 2026 broadcast, Felhofer explained that the district continues to face budget pressures driven by rising operational costs, declining enrollment, and limited state aid growth. He noted that without additional revenue authority, the district could be forced to consider reductions in staffing, programming, extracurricular offerings, and maintenance.
The superintendent also addressed the previous referendum effort that was rejected by voters and discussed what district officials believe residents should understand ahead of the April election.
Viewers tuned in live on DrydenWire's Facebook page and submitted questions during the interactive broadcast. Topics included the district’s long-term financial outlook, the impact on taxpayers, and how the proposed funds would be allocated if approved.
