Shell Lake Superintendent Issues Statement on Recent Softball Game vs Cameron

SHELL LAKE, Wis. -- Shell Lake Superintendent David Bridenhagen issued the following statement to DrydenWire.com on the recent situation at a softball game between Shell Lake and Cameron that saw tempers rise:

In our country at all levels, sports have always been very competitive and emotionally charged.  Unfortunately, these two things don't always go together well.  This can be the case for fans, coaches and athletes. I believe that this is the case for the recent softball game. I don't condone this type of behavior and having spoken with several people including the superintendent in Cameron and we all agree that we regret what transpired.  I am confident that Cameron School District will act as necessary to deal with this.  I hope that we can also learn from this unfortunate event the need to keep our emotions in check and be respectful to everyone especially when school sports are involved.  It's important that our adults always provide a positive role model for are youth.

District Administrator for the Cameron School District Joe Leschisin has also issued an updated statement:

No formal decisions have been made as of yet by our district. I have to say that I am glad that we did not rush to judgment as we are still receiving statements from people that were at the game last week. Coach Ebner has acknowledged his error in judgment. Our goal will always be to maintain a positive competitive atmosphere for our youth athletic programs.

Cameron Administrator Issues Statement on Heated Softball Game Vs. Shell Lake

Friday, May 12, 2017 | by Ben Dryden

SHELL LAKE, Wis. -- Cameron District Administrator Joe Leschisin issued a statement to DrydenWire.com regarding a situation that occurred at a softball game between the Cameron Comets and Shell Lake Lakers on Thursday, May 11, 2017.

I am aware of some of the inappropriate comments and behavior of our head coach at last night's softball game with Shell Lake. Our athletic director has been tied up all day as we prepare to host the Lakeland Conference Middle School track meet and I have been out of the office most of the day as well. We simply have not had the time to sort through all of the details and will be looking into the matter thoroughly. While I was not at the game, I do know that it was a hard fought battle between two good teams and, unfortunately, things got out of control. Our coaches simply need to maintain their composure. On behalf of the Cameron School District, I do want to apologize for any inappropriate actions and comments made by our coach.

This morning, Friday, May 12, 2017, DrydenWire received several messages from area residents stating that there was a heated situation that involved the head softball coach for Cameron, Tim Ebner.

One person who was in attendance at the game took to social media and stated that the Cameron Comets Varsity softball coach displayed poor sportsmanship, foul language, and disrespect to the players, coaches and the fans. This individual stated that Cameron Coach Tim Ebner not only argued with the umpire but also charged the fence and allegedly shouted at a 92-year-old Shell Lake Fan and threatened to spit in his face.

Contrastly, others replied on social media stating that Shell Lake fans were allegedly making comments against Cameron teammates calling one Cameron teammate the worst pitcher ever and expressing hopes that another was hurt, according to the commenter. Another commented that the 92-year-old Shell Lake fan previously referenced was allegedly heckling the Cameron players.

DrydenWire was not at the game that saw Shell Lake edge Cameron 5 to 3, but it sounds like there may not have been any winners last night.

Note: Shell Lake Superintendent stated to DrydenWire that he was not in town today nor was he aware of the situation but that he would be looking into it on Monday.

Social Media Commenting: DrydenWire takes great pride in factual reporting and will not tolerate any defamatory libel statement against any/all parties involved. Any defamation statement will be properly recorded and removed with later evaluation for possible litigious affairs.
