BARRON COUNTY -- Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said in a news conference this afternoon at 4p that the medical examiner has ruled the deaths of James Closs, 56, and Denise Closs, 46, parents of Jayme Closs, as homicide by gunshot. Fitzgerald stated that a gun was not found at the scene.
Fitzgerald would not elaborate further on the autopsy stating that he had just received the report before the beginning of the press conference.
Fitzgerald also said that "based on the investigation thus far, we believe Jayme was in the home at the time of the homicides and we still believe that she is in danger," adding "This remains an active investigation and we are following up on every tip. As of 3 PM today, we have received over 400 tips from our community and across the nation. We have added phone lines to accommodate the influx of information coming into our command post."
The Sheriff added that it took only 4 minutes from the time the 911 call had completed until deputies arrived on the scene, though Jayme was not there when authorities arrived.
In response to a media question, Fitzgerald said that he didn't know if this was a targeted or a random act. He also responded to another question about the sighting in Miami which he stated that there has been no credible sightings anywhere.
Sheriff Fitzgerald said that they now have over 200 law enforcement personnel "on the ground" to find the missing 13-year-old, Jayme Closs.
