SPOONER, WI – Spooner Health is now seeking a Full-Time Patient Accounts/Clerical for Home Health.
This Patient Accounts/Clerical staff member is responsible for verifying patient benefits and coverage, ensuring accurate claim submission, and supporting staff with required insurer documentation. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable in Medicare, government payers, commercial insurance requirements, and computerized billing systems.
Key duties include verifying provider eligibility in PECOS, preparing and submitting home health billing, maintaining census reports and spreadsheets, and managing electronic work queues. The Patient Accounts/Clerical staff member will follow up on outstanding or rejected claims, review EOBs, prepare appeals, and submit secondary claims as needed. Strong communication skills are essential, as this position interacts with patients, families, insurers, and internal departments.
A successful candidate demonstrates professionalism, clear written communication, initiative, accuracy, and efficiency. Additional responsibilities include participating in staff meetings and required in‑services, complying with infection control and safety policies, completing annual competency requirements, and supporting departmental quality improvement efforts. Proper use of equipment, adherence to organizational policies, and productive use of work time are expected.
Must be flexible, organized, able to adapt to changing regulations, and capable of handling occasional stress. A self‑starter with strong problem‑solving skills and a courteous, professional demeanor will thrive in this role.
Requirements of the position include:
- Proficient in use of computers and common office equipment/40 WPM.
- Knowledge of basic math.
- Detail oriented and ability to prioritize work
- Understanding of HIPAA privacy requirements for patient information. Maintains and protects confidential information
- Knowledgeable on insurance and reimbursement process
- Ability to communicate orally and in a written format to patients, customers, peers, and supervisors. Business letter writing is required.
- Ability to work with minimal direction and oversight
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, co-workers and the public.
