WASHBURN COUNTY — The Court has sentenced a man on amended charges in a case charging him with alleged sexual assault of a child under age 16 in Washburn County.
DrydenWire.com reported in May 2018, that Michael Stair of Spooner, WI, was charged with two counts of Class C Felony Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16 Years of Age following an investigation by the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office into a report that Stair allegedly sexually assaulted a minor female under the age of 16.
The criminal complaint filed against Stair alleged that Stair told Law Enforcement that he knew the female was under the age of 16, that he provided alcohol to the female, and that sexual activities occurred between Stair and the female.
At a hearing on December 2, 2019, the Court sentenced Stair on convictions for amended charges of Class I Felony Exposing Genitals/Pubic Area/Intimate Parts to a Child, Class I Felony Child Abuse-Recklessly Cause Harm, and Misdemeanor 4th Degree Sexual Assault.
The charges against Stair were amended at a hearing in July 2019. Details were not listed in the online circuit court records as to the plea agreement regarding the charges.
The Court ordered a sentence of 60 days jail (credit for 60 days time already served) with 3 years probation on each conviction; to be served concurrently. Stair was also ordered to undergo sex offender counseling and maintain absolute sobriety. Conditions of his probation also prohibit Stair from having any unsupervised contact with non-family females under the age of 18.
If Stair successfully completes 300 hours of community service, he will also be eligible for expungement.
