Benefit, Fund Set Up for Holden, Spooner Resident with Brain Cancer

SPOONER, WI-- Spooner resident Ryley Holden, 22, the son of Buzz and Tami Holden of Spooner, was recently diagnosed with a serious form of brain cancer, Glioblastoma, and a GoFundMe account has been organized to help the family with expenses related to Ryley’s health issues and care.

Ryley, a 2012 Spooner High School graduate, has served in the Wisconsin National Guard with the 950th Engineer Company (Superior/Spooner). He was also an athlete for Spooner High School and went on to play baseball for the Spooner Cardinals.

Lynda Marquardt with the Northwoods Support Team is one local stepping up to help the Holdens during this time. “The Holden family has been involved in the local community in many ways,” she said. “Now, it is our turn to help them!”

According to Marquardt, “Illnesses bring on unexpected financial stresses, and the family has lost many hours at jobs to be with Ryley at the VA in Minneapolis. The family stays at the Fisher House, while Ryley receives treatment. This is a weekly reality for awhile for the Holdens.”

A benefit for Ryley will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, at Tony's Riverside in Spooner. Additional information will be shared on the Northwoods Support Team Facebook page as more details become available.

MORE WAYS TO HELP

Some of the items on the Holdens’ “Wish List” include the following:

  • Donations for a silent auction - high- to mid-value items
  • Donations for Chinese auction - these can be smaller donations, which may be combined into a gift basket for auction
  • Donation of a rifle, pistol, and/or crossbow to be raffled
  • Bake Sale donations of baked goods or treats
  • Donations of baked goods for the benefit dinner
  • Donations of cash or gas cards and restaurant gift cards will also be accepted and given directly to the Holden family

NOTE: Those who secure commitments on any items listed (or not listed) are asked to contact Marquardt as soon as possible so efforts aren’t duplicated. Marquardt noted she will also need volunteers for setup/take down before and after the benefit, and volunteers are needed to sell raffle tickets. Contact: lyn_marquardt@hotmail.com

“For downtime in between treatments, Tami and Ryley also like to go to the movies or other activities such as the attractions at Mall of America,” Marquardt said. “The Cities have AMC movies and passes can be ordered online for the Holdens. Thanks so much on behalf of the Holden Family!”
