BURNETT COUNTY — A Burnett County theft investigation that began with a missing safe and led to criminal charges against Heather Honeycutt, age 41, of Spooner, WI, after a cigarette butt found at the scene helped link her to the crime, has concluded.

The safe, reported stolen in early March 2024, contained over $114,000 worth of valuables, including precious metals, rare coins, jewelry, and a firearm. DNA evidence from the cigarette connected to Honeycutt, who received felony charges.

Honeycutt was sentenced in Burnett County Circuit Court on June 9, 2026.
