EAGLE POINT, WI – A fire early Tuesday morning displaced approximately 11 individuals from a 12-unit apartment complex in the Township of Eagle Point, according to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities received a report of the fire at 2:57 a.m. at 8984 Hwy 124. Upon arrival, deputies found part of the building engulfed in flames. All occupants were successfully evacuated, with two individuals transported by ambulance for unknown injuries.
Fire crews from multiple departments battled the blaze in subzero temperatures, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures. Responding agencies included the Anson, Bloomer, Eagle Point, Tilden, and Fire District Fire Departments, along with Chippewa Falls and Fire District Ambulance Services, the Chippewa County Highway Department, and Excel Energy.
The American Red Cross is assisting displaced residents in securing temporary housing. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Public records indicate that the building housed multiple registered sex offenders. The Department of Corrections is working with the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office to track their relocation. Updated addresses will be reported to the sex offender registry, and public notification will follow as necessary.
Sheriff Travis Hakes expressed gratitude to the fire and first responders for their efforts in extreme conditions.
