BARRON COUNTY -- A structure fire in Turtle Lake on Monday night has resulted in the death of one male.

According to the Turtle Lake Fire Department, on January 9, 2023, at 5:57p, the Turtle Lake Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire at 1290 2nd street in Turtle Lake. The Fire Department was advised that there was possibly one subject still in the structure. While en route, dispatch advised that the updated address was 1285 2nd Street.

When the Fire Department arrived on the scene, there was heavy smoke coming from a pole shed structure. The structure had living quarters on one end of the building. Firemen entered the building but had to exit due to the extreme heat inside the building.

Shortly after on scene, it was confirmed that there was still a male subject unaccounted for. A female subject had escaped the building and went to a neighbor to call for help. Officers from the Barron County Sheriff’s Office and the Turtle Lake Police Department canvased the outside area of the property for the missing subject.

About an hour after arriving on the scene, fire personnel located a body inside the living area near one of the windows of the building. The name of the victim is not being released at this time pending notification of the family.

The Fire Department remained on the scene until 10:10p. The fire is still under investigation by the Turtle Lake Fire Department, Barron County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State DCI Fire Investigators, and the Barron County Medical Examiner Office.

Additionally, the Turtle Lake Fire Department thanks the Cumberland Ambulance Service, and Emergency Services of Barron County for being on standby during this incident.
