Criminal Charges Filed In Barron County Stabbing Incident


BARRON COUNTY — Melanie Kuula, age 44 of Almena, WI, has been identified as a suspect that was arrested following the fatal stabbing incident that occurred in Almena, WI on August 10, 2019, according to Turtle Lake Police Chief Al Gabe.

The Barron County Jail Inmate Roster indicates that Kuula was booked into the Jail on August 10. A charge of 2nd Degree Intentional Homicide has been added to the list of violations for which Kuula is being held.

BARRON COUNTY —  Law enforcement has taken a female into custody following an incident in Almena, WI on August 10, 2019, which resulted in the death of one male.

An alleged stabbing was reported in the Village of Almena at around 4:20p August 10, 2019.

Barron County Dispatch received a call from an individual stating that a female had just stabbed her boyfriend, according to a call log from Barron County Sheriff’s Office.

The Turtle Lake Police Department and the Barron County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Soo Avenue East, Almena, WI, and located a deceased male in the backyard, according to a press release from the Turtle Lake Police Department.

(Press Release) -- On 08-10-2019 at 16:23 the Barron County Sheriff's Dept dispatch received a call reporting a female had just stabbed her boyfriend on Soo Ave East in the 200 block in the Village of Almena.

When officers from the Turtle Lake Police Dept and Barron County Sheriff Dept arrived they found a male subject in a back yard deceased.

Officers located a female subject a short time later that was believed to be involved in the incident. the female was taken into custody.

At this time the incident still remains under investigation by the Turtle Lake Police Dept, Barron County Sheriff Dept, Wisconsin State Patrol, and Barron County Medical Examiner.

There is no danger to the public.
