BARRON COUNTY -- Jake Patterson, the man accused in the Jayme Closs kidnapping and the homicide of Jayme’s parents is scheduled to make his first court appearance today, January 14, 2019 at 3:30p.
Patterson, age 21, was arrested last week after Jayme escaped from a residence near Gordon, WI where Patterson had been holding her captive for nearly 90 days. According to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald, Patterson did not have any prior criminal convictions.
A search warrant was conducted at the residence where Jayme was held, and evidence was collected to be sent to the Wisconsin State Crime Lab for analysis.
At a press conference last week the Barron County District Attorney stated that a criminal complaint against Patterson would be filed this week. Patterson is facing charges of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide and Kidnapping.
Defense attorneys Charles Glynn and Richard Jones -- who previously represented Doug Nitek, the man convicted of killing Rusk County Deputy Dan Glaze -- spoke to media over the weekend, stating that they will request that Patterson appear in person for his court appearance today, although Sheriff Fitzgerald indicated that Patterson would likely appear via video. Glynn & Jones would not confirm if Patterson has confessed to any part of the crimes he is charged with.
