Suspected Drug House Located in Spooner after Traffic Stop by Spooner Police

Charges of Maintaining a Drug Trafficking Place have been filed against a Spooner man after the Spooner Police Department conducted a traffic stop which led to a search warrant of the man's residence.

Multiple Felony charges have been filed against Jonathan P. Bryan in Washburn County Circuit Court following a search warrant conducted at his residence.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Bryan, a Spooner Police Officer conducted a traffic stop for canceled registration on Bryan's vehicle on July 9, 2017. Spooner Police Department had received multiple tips regarding Bryan during the week prior to this traffic stop. Some of the tips gave the Spooner Police Department information that Bryan had possession of a handgun and was carrying the gun in his vehicle most of the time.

Due to these tips, officers conducted what is described in the complaint as a high-risk traffic stop with multiple officers on scene and officers approaching the vehicle with firearms out.

Bryan exited the vehicle when ordered and was placed under temporary detainment without incident. The passenger in Bryan's vehicle reportedly at first told officers she did not know where the firearm would be located, although she was aware that Bryan had recently come into possession of one. Ultimately she apparently did tell officers that if the gun was in the car, they would find it wrapped and concealed under the hood of the car. Officers checked and found a 9mm “Jimenez Arms” handgun with 2 magazines and 1 9mm bullet.

According to the criminal complaint, officers confirmed that Bryan had prior criminal felony convictions and had been arrested in the State of Oregon for Felon in Possession of Firearm, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle and many other charges. At that time Bryan was placed under arrest for Class G Felony Possess a Firearm-Convicted of a Felony.

When officers interviewed the passenger further she told them that she had assisted Bryan with transporting drugs in her vehicle to Washburn County from Sawyer County and confirmed that they would likely find drugs in their Spooner residence. Officers then obtained a search warrant for Bryan's residence in Spooner, WI.

During the execution of the search warrant, officers located a black Firearm Silencer, 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, nearly 30 items of drug paraphernalia including smoking pipes and bongs – many of which tested positive for methamphetamine, 1 digital scale, 1 mechanical scale, and green plant material which tested positive for Marijuana.

Public record indicates that Bryan appeared in Washburn County Circuit Court on July 10, 2017, for a Bail Bond Hearing and was placed on a $1,000 cash bail bond which was posted that same date.

The Washburn County District Attorney's Office filed the following charges against Bryan on July 14, 2017:

  • Possess Firearm – Convicted of a Felony; a Class G Felony
  • Sell/Deliver/Possess Firearm Silencer; a Class H Felony
  • Maintain Drug Trafficking Place; a Class I Felony
  • Possession of Methamphetamine; a Class I Felony
  • Possession of THC (marijuana); a Misdemeanor
  • Possess Drug Paraphernalia; a Misdemeanor

Bryan made his Initial Appearance on his criminal charges in Washburn County Circuit Court on Monday, July 17, 2017, and is set to appear again on July 24, 2017, for a preliminary examination hearing.

According to public record, Bryan is also charged in Burnett County Circuit Court with Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine in a case filed in February 2017. He was placed on the conditions of $3,000 signature bond for that case and is scheduled to appear next on those charges in September of 2017.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
