RUSK COUNTY, WI — Authorities are investigating after suspected human bones were discovered in a wooded area of Rusk County, according to a press release from the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office.

On Friday, May 8, 2026, Rusk County Dispatch received a call from a forester marking trees, stating he may have discovered human bones. Rusk County Deputies, Department of Natural Resources, and the Wisconsin Department of Justice - Division of Criminal Investigations responded.
Law enforcement was led through the woods, and suspected human bones were recovered.
Law enforcement is working with the Rusk County Medical Examiner's office and a forensic anthropologist to confirm the identity.
Positive identification has not been confirmed, but law enforcement is anticipating that identification will be made based off of medical records.
