'The Shack' Movie & Discussion Group

'The Shack' Movie & Discussion Group

Many of us were intrigued when we read the book and even more when we were challenged by the movie that came out last winter.  The Shack has touched millions of readers and moviegoers with its portrayal of a compassionate God in the face of great evil.  And many have had some of the questions it compels us to ask… Where is God? Who is God? What, can we learn about God from this popular story? Some may ask, Is God really like that? Is that really how God responds to evil? Can God be trusted?  And even “Is it possible to encounter a real God in a fictional story?”

This fall, the United Methodist Churches of Hertel: Lakeview, Sarona, Shell Lake and Spooner with Pastors Jack Starr and Steve Miller invite you to a group study of The Shack on Tuesday evenings beginning this month..

The first evening of the study will be a presentation of the film at Spooner UMC on September 19 at 6:30pm.  There will be pizza and popcorn and other refreshments.

The next five weeks, Tuesday, September 26, October 3, October 10, October 24, and November 7 are dedicated to in-depth discussion of the film and its profound questions and insights for our lives.  Each study session will begin at 6:30 with a time of refreshments. These sessions are hosted by the different churches on different nights.  The schedule is below.(Please note:  there will be no study session on Tuesday, October 17 or on Halloween. The 31st.)

There is no cost to anyone although the book will be available at a small cost. If you’re interested or have questions, please contact either Church Office
