Tire Deflation Device Used In High-Speed Pursuit in Rusk County

***PRESS RELEASE***

On 11/09/2016 at approximately 1125 hrs, Rusk County Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle on Hanson Rd, located in the Town of Grant and County of Rusk, believing that the vehicle contained a subject with a felony arrest warrant. This vehicle did not yield to police vehicles and lead deputies on an approximately 25 mile vehicle pursuit with speeds at times exceeding 100 mph.

On Hwy 27 south of the Village of Holcombe, a Cornell Police Officer successfully deployed a tire deflation device causing at least one of the vehicle tires to deflate. The vehicle continued east on Hwy 64 where it attempted to turn onto 350th Street, lost control and entered the ditch.

The driver, Mason J. Halverson (age 23) was taken into custody for fleeing and recklessly endangering safety. Jacob J. Shimko (age 31) was arrested for a felony probation and parole warrant and possessing marijuana. A second passenger was identified as Aisha Williams (age 19), who was not arrested and sustained minor injuries during the crash. Williams refused medical transport from the scene. No officers or members of the public were injured during this incident and no police vehicles or public property sustained damaged.

Assisting the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office in this incident was the Ladysmith Police Dept, Cornell Police Dept and the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office.

This incident remains under investigation by the Rusk County Sheriff’s Office.
