RUSK COUNTY -- One person was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence after allegedly striking a stopped Ladysmith Police Department squad car on Tuesday night, according to a news release from the Ladysmith Police Department.

On Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at approximately 9:30 pm, a Ladysmith Police Officer was on patrol on Lindoo Avenue at 1st Street South in the City of Ladysmith. While stopped at the intersection of Lindoo Avenue and 1st Street South, the Ladysmith Police Department squad car was rear ended/struck by an approaching vehicle. Both the squad car and striking vehicle pulled over to the shoulder of 1st Street South.
The Rusk County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate the crash. The driver of the striking vehicle was identified as Courage C. McGhee, age 49, of Ladysmith.
After investigation, McGhee was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, 1st offense.
No injuries were reported by either the Ladysmith Police Officer or McGhee.
As a result of the crash, minor damage was sustained to the Ladysmith Police Department squad car.
