Train vs Vehicle in Barron Results in 1 Fatality, Another Injured

**UPDATE** (7:32 PM) -- The Barron Police Department has issued the following press release regarding today's incident:

At approximately 10:43 AM on Saturday, September 02, 2017 emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a Canadian National train and a passenger sedan at the N. Mill St. crossing in Barron, Wisconsin.

The driver of the sedan, Asli Abdi Hayir was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger in the sedan was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Barron and later flown by helicopter to Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire. The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time and no additional patients were involved.

Response agencies included the Barron Police Dept, Barron/Maple Grove Fire Dept, Barron County Sheriff’s Dept, Barron County Medical Examiner’s Office, Gold Cross ambulance, Lakeview Medical Center ambulance, and CN Railroad.

The crash remains under investigation by the Barron Police Department.


**UPDATE** (2:20 PM) -- Emergency Services of Barron County stated that emergency crews are preparing to clear the incident and the train should be moved by 3:00 PM.


**UPDATE** (1:36 PM) -- Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald confirmed to DrydenWire.com a short time ago that there was 1 fatality and another person was injured, but the status of the 2nd person is unknown at this time.

BARRON, Wis. -- At 11:30 AM, today, September 2, 2017, Emergency Services of Barron County stated that a Train vs Vehicle crash occurred in the city of Barron on North Mill Street. The ESBC asked residents to avoid the area until response crews could clear the scene.

The Barron County Sheriff's Department stated that as of 12:40 PM, emergency crews were starting to clear the scene.
