A Trego man was assaulted on Friday, October 21, outside his home around 7:30 p.m.
The victim (who has requested to remain anonymous) said he pulled into his garage where he had left the door open. The garage door opener light was out so it was dark.
He said he was struck in the back of the head as he was outside the garage punching in the code to close the door.
He only remembers trying to get help from his wife moments later at their front door. His wife was home sleeping when he came home.
The brother of the victim (who also asked to remain anonymous) said the wife called him and he came right over. After inspecting the garage area to make sure no one was there, they called the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim had a gash to the back of his head just behind the ear and he had a mark above his eye. He wasn’t sure if he was hit again after he fell to cause the eye injury.
The brother said they think the person who assaulted his brother was already in the garage because his brother had left the door open and was gone for about an hour and a half.
According to the victims brother, Three Washburn County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and took a statement from said victim.
The brother said they have installed new lighting and have the place lit up like a Christmas Tree. He added that his brother has no known enemies and is an upstanding citizen and business owner.
“We’re worried about others in our community, especially with all the other things happening like the home invasion in Stone Lake,” the brother said.
Washburn County Sheriff Terry Dryden declined to comment for this story when we called, stating: “We typically do not comment on on-going investigations”.
