Two-Car Crash Leads To Arrest: Intoxicated Driver Resists Arrest, Injuring Deputy In Barron County

BARRON COUNTY - A Barron County Sheriff's Deputy was injured following an incident in Barron County on Friday night that resulted in the arrest of a Minnesota man, according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff's Office.

On Friday July 14, 2023 at 8:57pm the Barron County 911 Center received a call of a 2 car accident on Hwy 63 at19th Ave, just west of Cumberland. The caller reported no injuries.

A deputy from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene of the crash. During the course of his investigation he determined that the driver of one of the vehicles was under the influence of an intoxicant and went to place him under arrest. The subject resisted arrest and a struggle between the deputy and the suspect took place.

Officers from both the Cumberland and Turtle Lake Police Department responded to assist in taking the suspect into custody.

Both the deputy and the suspect were taken to Barron Hospital and were treated for minor injuries.

The suspect, Shawn Thielman, 38, from St Cloud, MN was arrested and is being held in the Barron County Jail on charges of OWI-3rd, Resisting Arrest and Battery to a Law Enforcement Officer.
