Two Dead Following Plane Crash In Ashland County

ASHLAND COUNTY -- A man and woman - both in their 20's - have died following a plane crash near the Town of Marengo in Ashland County, according to a news release from the Ashland County Sheriff's Office.

News Release

On October 23rd, 2021 at approximately 2:40 PM, the Ashland County Communications Center received multiple 911 calls reporting a single-engine aircraft had crashed near a residence in the Town of Marengo.

Ashland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene along with the Marengo Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Marengo Ambulance Service, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

A 29-year-old Marengo man and a 21-year-old Marengo woman were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Ashland County Coroner’s Office and are believed to be the only occupants of the aircraft.

During the course of the crash, the aircraft struck a local residence. No one other than the occupants of the plane itself were harmed and there should be no danger to community residents.

Names of the victims are being withheld at this time as the investigation remains ongoing by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration with assistance from this office.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office offers its deepest condolences to the family of the victims and will share further information with the public regarding this incident as it becomes available.
