Two-Vehicle Crash In Washburn County Results In Multiple Injuries

WASHBURN COUNTY -- A multi-vehicle crash in Bashaw Township has resulted in serious injuries to several indiviuals, according to a press release from the Washburn County Sheriff's Office.

On Monday, August 09, 2021, at approximately 1:50 pm, Washburn County deputies were dispatched to a two vehicle crash at the intersection of State Highway 63 and Honeybee Rd, in Bashaw Township of Washburn County.

Upon arrival, deputies witnessed two vehicles in the western ditch of State Highway 63.

A 2005 dark blue Dodge Grand Caravan, which had severe damage to the driver’s door and driver’s side rear door.

Deputies attempted to talk to the driver, but driver was unresponsive. Deputies noted that three juveniles were also passengers in this vehicle.

The driver and adult passenger appeared to be critically injured.

The second vehicle was bearing Minnesota registration and returned on a white Honda Pilot, this vehicle had severe damage to the front of the vehicle.

A male driver had been driving this vehicle with an adult female passenger, both appeared severely injured.

Witnesses stated that the Dodge Caravan pulled out onto State Highway 63 in front of traffic and failed to yield to the right of way.

The driver of the Honda swerved but was unable to avoid striking the Dodge Caravan on the driver’s side.

The male driver and female passenger of the Honda, as well as one small child and female adult passenger of the Dodge Caravan were all transported by ambulance to various hospitals.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan was flown by helicopter to a nearby trauma center.

Assisting agencies that responded were Life Link Helicopter, North Memorial EMS, Cumberland EMS, Shell Lake Fire, and Shell Lake First Responders.

This traffic accident is still under investigation by the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office.
