A 57-year-old woman died following a two-vehicle crash in Polk County on Sunday, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
(Press Release) -- On 5/27/2018 at 11:30 a.m., the Polk County Dispatch Center received a report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries near 419 STH 46 (just south of Amery), in the Town of Black Brook.
Upon arrival deputies observed a black Ford F-150 with severe front end damage stopped in the southbound lane facing north. The second vehicle, a gold Ford Ranger, also with severe front end damage was observed facing north in the west ditch.
A witness on the scene advised that he was in a vehicle in front of the ford Ranger heading north on 46 when the Ford F-150, which was southbound on 46, crossed the center line. The witness said he swerved to avoid the F-150 and then observed the crash behind him in his rearview mirror.
The passenger of the Ford Ranger died at the scene of injuries sustained in the crash. She is identified as Brenda Soderberg, 57, of Hammond, WI. The driver of the Ranger, Keith Soderberg, 63, Hammond, WI, was flown via air ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN with severe injuries. Both occupants had been wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Ford F-150, Kali Laqua, 17, Amery, was also flown to Regions Hospital with severe injuries. The passenger of the F-150, Galen Coy, 17, Deer Park, WI was transported to Amery Regional Medical Center by ambulance. His injuries were not believed to be serious. At this time it is believed the driver was not wearing her seatbelt and the passenger’s seatbelt use was unknown.
The crash remains under investigation and is being reconstructed by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Assisting the Polk County Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Amery Police, Amery Fire, the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Wisconsin State Patrol, Amery Ambulance, and Life Link air ambulance.
This is the third fatality in Polk County crashes in 2018.
