UPDATE: SASD Says Additional Advanced Environmental Sampling And Analysis Needed

SPOONER, WI -- This is an update on the situation regarding the Spooner Middle School where a strong epoxy-like odor spread through the school on Wednesday, 11/10/2021, causing some students and staff members to become ill and everyone in the building to be evacuated.

The most critical piece of this matter continues to be the health and safety of our students and staff members.

Out of an abundance of caution, additional advanced environmental sampling and analysis will take place.

Remote learning will continue for Spooner Middle Schools students at least through the remainder of this week.

Next week is Thanksgiving Break with no school for students District-wide. In person learning will not resume at Spooner Middle School until we are assured the environment is safe for everyone in the building and authorization to occupy the building has been received.

Classes will continue as scheduled for students at Spooner High School, Spooner Elementary School and Washburn County Alternative High School.

No new cases of students or staff members seeking medical attention due to illness related to the 11/10/2021 exposure to a strong epoxy-like odor have been reported today.

Please join us in wishing all of those who have fallen ill a complete recovery.
