SAWYER COUNTY -- The cash bond of $25,000 ordered for Kent (Kenneth) Joki on his charges of child sexual assault in Sawyer County Circuit Court has been reduced to $5,000.
DrydenWire.com reported on Wednesday that Joki’s cash bond was set at $25,000 by the Hon. John Yackel at a hearing on March 9, 2020.
At a hearing on March 11, 2020, defense counsel for Joki presented a motion for bond reduction to the Hon. John Anderson, now assigned to Joki’s case, according to online circuit court records.
A Sawyer County Court Official stated to DrydenWire.com that due the overwhelming case load in Sawyer County and with only having one Judge, other Judges are being assigned to 1 in 5 court cases. In this situation, the case was assigned to Judge Anderson.
Judge Anderson heard statements from both defense counsel and Sawyer County District Attorney Poquette before granting the motion for reduction of bond, from $25,000 to $5,000 cash.
Joki is charged with Class B Felony 1st Degree Child Sexual Assault - Sexual Contact With a Child Under Age 13 following an investigation by Sawyer County authorities into allegations that Joki sexually assaulted a child.
Joki is scheduled to have a preliminary examination hearing on his charges later in March 2020.
