Two men from Oregon were charged criminally in Washburn County Circuit Court in December 2016 after a drug bust by the Shell Lake Police Department.
William Tate of Trail, Oregon and Monte Yates of Gold Hill, Oregon both received felony drug charges after the Shell Lake Police Department responded to a complaint of the odor of marijuana smoke. Officers executed a search of the residence with the assistance of the Washburn County Sheriff's Office. During that search officers located nearly 40 grams of marijuana, various items of drug paraphernalia, and a variety of unlabeled pills.
Public record shows that all charges have been disposed of in Washburn County Circuit Court.
Tate was charged with Felony Possession of Marjuana, 2nd offense or more, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. On March 13, 2017, Tate plead no contest to an amended charge of Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana and also plead no contest to the charge of Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The court ordered Tate to serve 90 days in jail with credit 77 days already served.
Yates was also charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana, 2nd Offense or more, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Public Record indicates that those charges were dismissed on the Court's own motion.
Yates also faced charges in Washburn County Circuit Court for a 2015 criminal case. In that case he had also been charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana, 2nd offense or more. According to public record, Yates plead guilty on March 14, 2017 to an amended charge of Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana in that 2015 case. The Court gave Yates a sentence of 50 days in jail, with credit for 50 days served.

Felony Charges Filed After Shell Lake PD Drug Bust

Charges have been filed against two men following a drug bust by Shell Lake Police Department on December 15, 2016.
William Tate, of Trail, Oregon, and Monte Yates, of Gold Hill, Oregon, were located by the Shell Lake Police Department at a Shell Lake residence after a call was received by law enforcement regarding the smell of marijuana being smoked.
According to documents on public record, Washburn County Sheriff's Office assisted the Shell Lake Police Department in a search of the residence. During the search officers located approximately 40 grams of marijuana and various items of drug paraphernalia as well as a variety of unlabeled pills. Both men were taken into custody at that time.
William Tate is charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and is being held on a cash bond. On December 22, 2016, the Court found that there is probable cause to bind Tate over for trial and he remains in the custody of the Washburn County Sheriff's Office at the time of this story. Tate is scheduled to appear again on his charges on January 23, 2017.
Monte Yates is also charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and is also currently being held on a cash bond.
Public record shows that Yates had previously been charged in Washburn County Circuit Court in 2015 with Felony Possession of Marijuana. He was scheduled to appear in October of 2015 on that charge but did not appear and a warrant was issued for his arrest at that time.
On December 19, 2016, Monte Yates' defense attorney made a motion to the Court to modify Yates' new bond conditions, however, that motion was denied.
