UPDATE: Victim Who Died In Polk County Crash Identified As 18-Year-Old

UPDATE: Authorities in Polk County have released the name and age of the deceased in Saturday's fatal crash.

According to Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak, the deceased has been identified as Masen Powell, 18, from Spring Valley, Wisconsin.

POLK COUNTY -- A multi-vehicle crash in Polk County has resulted in one death and severe injuries to others, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 2:56p, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center received a call of a 3-vehicle crash with injuries on Highway 65 just north of 28th ave in the town of Alden.

Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS were all dispatched to this scene.

Initial investigation and witness reports indicated that a vehicle occupied by 5 people, was traveling northbound on HWY 65 at a high rate of speed. This vehicle lost control after cresting a hill, crossed over the center line striking 2 southbound vehicles. 3 of the 5 occupants were ejected from the northbound vehicle and 1 subject was pronounced deceased at the scene. Air Ambulance transported 2 victims with severe injuries.

Occupants from the southbound vehicles had minor to moderate injuries.

The name of the deceased crash victim will be released at a later time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Polk County Medical examiner.
