UTV Hits Polk County Squad, Flees Scene In Early Morning Crash

POLK COUNTY -- A Polk County Sheriff’s Deputy and K9 partner escaped injury after their patrol vehicle was struck by a UTV in a hit-and-run crash early Sunday morning.

According to a press release from Sheriff Brent Waak, the incident occurred at approximately 1:20a on June 1st, 2025. The deputy was on patrol with the K9 unit traveling southbound on Highway 35, just south of the Village of Dresser, when their squad was sideswiped along the driver’s side by a UTV.

Following the collision, the UTV fled the scene. Although the deputy and K9 were not injured, the squad vehicle sustained significant damage.

Authorities later located both the operator and a passenger from the UTV. The operator was arrested on suspicion of operating while intoxicated (OWI) and hit and run.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting the investigation into the crash.

No further information has been released at this time.
