UPDATE: The Polk County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the victim who died on Saturday. The Sheriff's Office says the pedestrian was Dennis Schuebel, 69, of rural Amery.

Vehicle Vs Pedestrian Crash In Polk County Results In Fatality
POLK COUNTY — A pedestrian died from injuries sustained in a vehicle vs. pedestrian crash on Saturday in Polk County, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11:03 am, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a call of a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash on US Highway 8, just east of the Hwy 46 North Junction.
Upon arrival, the male victim was being attended to by good Samaritans and Emergency Medical Personnel. During the investigation of the crash, it appeared that a male, who had been operating his vehicle west bound on US Highway 8, had stopped his vehicle on the north shoulder. The male then exited his vehicle and appeared to enter the travel lane to pick up a piece of metal that was laying in the road.
As vehicles passed, the victim entered into the East bound lane of travel, into the path of an east bound vehicle. The male was struck in the east bound lane of travel. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian traveled a short distance before pulling the south shoulder.
The male that was struck later died on scene as a result of the injuries sustained.
The Sheriff’s Office was assisted with this indent by the Apple River Fire and First Responders, the Balsam Lake Fire and First Responders, the Lakes Area Ambulance Service, Life Link Air Ambulance, the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
This matter is under investigation with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol.
The name of the victim will be released at a later time.
