DOUGLAS COUNTY -- A 66-year-old man from Rice Lake has died as a result of a crash with a Highway Department tractor, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

At 9:30a on Tuesday July 20, 2021, a crash occurred on US 53 northbound near Solon Springs.

The crash resulted in one death and left another injured.

Wisconsin State Patrol Troopers and Douglas County Deputies responded to a crash on Highway 53 northbound approximately 1/10 of a mile north of North Boundary Road.

A Douglas County Highway Department worker was performing mowing operations in a tractor while driving northbound on Highway 53. A male driver in a pickup truck was also traveling north on Highway 53 and struck the rear of the tractor. The driver of the pickup truck did not survive the crash. The highway department worker had minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by Wisconsin State Patrol personnel.

Further details will be released pending notification of next of kin.
