Victim Identified In Fatal Crash Near Village Of Luck

LUCK, WI (DrydenWire) - Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred on Saturday, August 24, 2024, near the Village of Luck in Polk County. The accident, which happened at the intersection of State Highway 48 and County Highway I, claimed the life of 56-year-old William Van Heel of Princeton, Minnesota, according to an updated press release from  Polk County Sheriff Brent Waak on Wednesday.

The crash took place at approximately 11:00a when the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting the incident. According to the sheriff's office, a pickup truck with four occupants was traveling northbound on County Highway I when it failed to stop at a stop sign. The pickup then collided with an eastbound SUV on Highway 48, in which Van Heel was a passenger.

Tragically, Van Heel was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was initially withheld pending notification of his family.

Multiple emergency response teams, including the Luck Fire Department, Northwestern Municipal EMS, Lakes Region EMS, Wisconsin State Patrol, and the Polk County Medical Examiner, assisted at the scene.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No further details have been released at this time.
