Obituary

Steven Peter Waggoner, 59, of Minong, Wis. and formerly of Menomonie, Wis. died May 26, 2018 in Minong, Wis.

Steven was born December 21, 1958 at Naval Air Station Pensacola Hospital in Pensacola, FL to Peter and Patricia (Harbour) Waggoner. He graduated from Menomonie High school in 1977 and attended several universities including UW-Stout of Menomonie, Wis., Mount Senario College, Ladysmith, Wis., and further west at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Ariz.

In 1985, Steve moved to “God’s Country” to join the Waggoner clan and took pride in the fact he was the last place out of Minong and his next nearest neighbor was 9 miles away. Steve loved the outdoors with characteristic hobbies including year-round hunting including bear and deer, fishing, and camping. In addition to these he also raised, trained and raced sled dogs for many years.

Steve met Pamela in 1998 and shortly thereafter welcomed her and her three children into his home in the north country. Even through Steve wasn’t their birth father, he quickly took on the role of Dad and loved them as his own.  With his tough-love-when-necessary approach, he raised and taught them how to appreciate the little things in life, work hard, and show up early because “we’re burning daylight.” He shared his love of the outdoors with his new family, including hunting and fishing.

Steve and Pamela married in 1999, in Cadott, Wis. at Cabin Ridge Rides where Steve’s love of the Green Bay Packers was the theme with all of the Groomsmen wearing Packer vests and the Bridesmaids wearing “Packer-green.”

Steve began his Northwood’s Property Management Business, starting small with just a few clients while working at the Sports Shop. With nothing but an older John Deere mower and a weed trimmer, he built a loyal reputation and his business flourished over the years to 200+ accounts.  His services ranged from yard maintenance, installing docks, painting and pressure washing, to any requests for a handyman.  He was a dedicated business owner and cared very much about his clients.

Steve was an active member of the Washburn County Board for 12 years. He loved his position because of the reward of giving back to the community.  He was proud to be elected as Vice-Chair of the county board this last year.

Steve always said he’s the kind of man who will “die with his boots on.”

Steve is survived by his spouse Pamela Waggoner (Ennen); step children, Jennifer (Bruce) Lorimor, Anthony and Nathan Anderson; step grandchildren, Lillian and Jackson Lorimor; father, Peter (Annette) Waggoner; brother, John (Sue) Waggoner; nephews, Joe and Ryan Waggoner; uncles, Robert (Mary) and John Harbour

Preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Waggoner and his mother-in-law Jacqueline Ennen.

A time of gathering for Steven Waggoner will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018, from 4-6pm, with a celebration of life service at 6pm at The River Church in Minong with Pastor Ben Kidder as officiant.
