Washburn County Seeking Applicants For Veterans Service Officer

WASHBURN COUNTY -- Washburn County is seeking applicants for the County Veterans Service Officer. The previous Veterans Service Officer, Lisa Powers, is no longer with the County following a special County Board meeting on Thursday, March 18, 2021. Details of the closed session and reasonings why Lisa is no longer employed with the County are not known to DrydenWire.com. When asked, Washburn County Administrator, Lolita Olson, said only that Lisa was no longer employed with the County.

Washburn County is seeking applicants for the position of County Veterans Service Officer.

Responsibilities of this position include advising and assisting U.S. military service veterans, spouses and dependents in securing eligible state and federal benefits and entitlements; Preparing and delivering public presentations to ensure public awareness of veterans services; Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients, veteran’s organizations, other governmental units, and the general public.

The County Veterans Service Officer shall be a veteran who has served on active duty under honorable conditions in the U.S. Armed forces; He/she shall have working knowledge of the benefits and services available to veterans and their dependents, and of state and federal laws and regulations. He/she shall have knowledge of the principles and methods of interviewing and have knowledge of available community resources and agencies, both public and private. He/she shall have knowledge of modern office methods and practices including knowledge and experience using MS Office Suite products, windows operating systems, computers, and peripheral devices. Must have the ability to express ideas clearly in both written and oral form. Must be a resident of the state of WI. High School diploma or equivalent required. Vocational/technical training in benefits counseling and administration preferred. Veteran’s service organization (VSO) accreditation preferred. Starting wage range is $23.69 – 26.35/hr plus excellent benefits.
