Webster Man Charged With Sexual Assault By Use Of Force In Washburn County

WASHBURN COUNTY -- A Webster, WI man is facing charges of sexual assault by use of force after the Spooner Police Department responded to a report that a woman was being sexually assaulted.

A criminal complaint has been filed in Washburn County Circuit Court against Trent T. Trepania, 26, of Webster, WI, charging him with Class C Felony Second Degree Sexual Assault/Use of Force; Class C Felony Attempt Second Degree Sexual Assault/Use of Force; three counts of Class H Felony Bail Jumping; and one count of Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.

The Spooner Police Department responded to a report of a woman being sexually assaulted on August 24, 2020, according to the criminal complaint. Officers made contact with a female (identified in the criminal complaint only as Victim #1) who was visibly upset: crying, shaking, and having difficulty breathing.

Officers were advised that the assault had occurred in the garage of a residence in the City of Spooner. The victim provided a description of the male who allegedly committed the sexual assault.

The victim went on to say that when the victim entered the garage, Trepania grabbed the victim and pulled down the victim’s pants and underclothes. Trepania allegedly then sexually assaulted the victim, while the victim repeatedly said “no” and “stop”. The victim stated that they could not get away from Trepania and that they felt helpless.

When Officers arrived at the residence on Benjamin Street, they located a male matching the description given by the victim, and he was identified as Trent T. Trepania.

The criminal complaint goes on to state that Officers attempted to speak with Trepania, however, he declined to answer any questions without an attorney present. Officers informed Trepania that he was being taken into custody for sexual assault.

Trepania stated repeatedly that he did not sexually assault anyone, and went on to say that he had a right to defend himself against anyone, even the police. Officers advised Trepania that if he attempted to run, Spooner Police K9 would be brought out of the squad car.

Trepania did ultimately cooperate with the arrest and was placed in a squad car, where he began banging his head against the plexiglass divider. He was transported to the Washburn County Jail, where he struck his head against the floor of a cell, resulting in transportation to the Shell Lake Hospital for medical care.

At a bail bond hearing on August 27, 2020, the Court ordered a $2,500 cash bond for Trepania.

Online circuit court records show that Trepania faces additional charges of Class H Felony Battery by Prisoners in a separate Washburn County Case filed against him on October 2, 2020.

In Burnett County Circuit Court a case filed in April of 2020 that is still pending against Trepania charges him with Class I Felony Substantial Battery-Intend Bodily Harm; and two counts of Class H Felony Bail Jumping.

Sawyer County Circuit Court has three criminal cases pending against Trepania which include charges of Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine; Class H Felony Bail Jumping; Misdemeanor Obstructing or Resisting an Officer; Misdemeanor Criminal Damage to Property; and Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct.

Trepania appeared most recently on October 5, 2020, by video means from the Washburn County Jail for an Initial Appearance hearing on the Sexual Assault charges and is scheduled to appear again on October 28, 2020, for a preliminary examination hearing.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
