The best approach to concussion management

Early Intervention:

Research shows that athletes who are diagnosed and receive treatment early recover more quickly and return to sport sooner and safer.

Quality Care:

The physical therapist and athletic training staff at Spooner Physical Therapy and Rehab Specialists are certified in treating and managing concussions.

Effective management:

Rest and return to sport protocols can be confusing and need to be handled appropriately to avoid exacerbation and symptom reoccurrence.

Here are some common signs of an athlete suffering from a concussion;

  • Dazed and confused appearance
  • Forgetfulness of recent events before or after the contact
  • Poor coordination
  • Impaired speech
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Unequal pupil size
  • Vomiting and nausea

Your athlete may complain of;

  • Headaches,
  • Blurry vision,
  • Sensitivity to noise/light, or
  • Just do not “feel right”.

Concussions can be scary. However, if you do have a head injury or suspect one, correct team management involving physician, therapists, trainers and nurses can make all the difference in recovery!
