What does your security mean to you in Washburn County?

Many people have asked about my qualifications and why I am running. This article is to help you understand my decision to run against the current Register of Deeds. As your candidate, I have major concerns with how the current Register of Deeds operates this elected office. Having knowledge and years of experience, the Register of Deeds should be one who will serve as a responsible public figure by making a conscious effort to ensure the care and safety of all records, but this is not the case. The public should be as concerned as I am when vital records are issued to the wrong individuals, potentially putting anyone in the county at risk. Errors like this should never happen in the Register of Deeds office and the public should be made aware of this, to hold the Register of Deeds accountable. I intend to prevent events like this in the future by closely working with staff and properly training them.

“A leader’s job is to look into the future and see the organization, not as it is, but as it SHOULD BE.” – Jack Welch

How important is continuous training to you?

Did you know that after attending important Wisconsin Register of Deeds Association seminars and conferences, the current Register of Deeds would not share any knowledge affecting the entire office with the rest of the staff? This selfish behavior degrades the entire department, who are expected to act on behalf of the Register during her absences. The current Register of Deeds should be held accountable for intentionally withholding information to the department in a deluded effort to keep herself as the only viable candidate to this elected position. Change , accountability, and stronger leadership need to be restored in the Register of Deeds office. My vision to strengthen the Register of Deeds office has led me to take steps to expand my management and leadership abilities. I graduated with an Associate Degree in Finance through Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College , then continued onto my Bachelor's in Management through University of Wisconsin – Stout. Striving for self-improvement is not only for myself, but to be an example for those around me as well . My situational awareness and attention to detail will ensure vital processes are performed to the level the public deserves.

“Leaders relentlessly upgrade their team, using every encounter as an opportunity to evaluate, coach, and build self-confidence.” – Jack Welch

During my time in the Register of Deeds office, I became well versed in the software such as e-recording, social security redaction, and the State Vital Records program. When a large scanning project concluded, I found many errors from the vendor connecting the volumes and pages to the corresponding images. Due to my analytical background, I took it upon myself to spend weeks examining thousands of records that were scanned and imported to ensure they were accurate and readily available to the public.

If elected, I plan to compare the software that is currently being utilized for e-recording with other vendors that offer easier remote accessibility to records so the public can see exactly what they are purchasing. The current software does not allow one to preview the document they are purchasing, which can be incredibly frustrating.

My experience in banking, finance, leadership, and real estate title work will provide the public a highly qualified leader to the office that records and preserves the vast number of documents that are recorded in this county. It is crucial to have proper training, instruction, and guidance to operate at the level needed in the Register of Deeds office. Washburn County cannot afford to be complacent when it comes to the security of these essential records.
