SAWYER COUNTY (DrydenWire) - A late-night medical emergency inside the Sawyer County Jail quickly escalated into a criminal investigation on October 6, 2025, after three inmates collapsed from suspected drug overdoses, two of them unconscious and one refusing Narcan.

Deputies located fentanyl- and cocaine-laced substances hidden in a jail cell, leading investigators to a recently booked inmate, 34-year-old Brandon Coerper.

In June of 2024, Coerper was sentenced to 5 years of probation following a Sawyer County conviction for Felony Possession with Intent - Amphetamine/Methamphetamine (>10-50g).

The new charges against Coerper allege that he brought more than a dozen grams of narcotics into the jail and distributed them moments before all three men hit the floor.
