Wisconsin Man Killed in Single Vehicle Crash

ST. CROIX COUNTY — A 63 year old Downing man was killed Sunday morning after his pickup truck left the roadway and crashed down a wooded embankment, according to the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.

The St. Croix County Emergency Communication Center received a call at about 8:01 a.m., on June 21, 2026, reporting a one-vehicle crash in the 700 Block of Badlands Road in Hudson Township.

Deputies arrived on scene and located a vehicle down a wooded embankment. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was trapped inside with no signs of life.

The vehicle was a 2013 Ford F-150 and had been traveling westbound on Badlands Road when it crossed over the centerline and entered the south ditch.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Dennis D. Swenby, age 63, from Downing, WI. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.

Mr. Swenby was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Hudson Fire Department, Roberts Fire Department, Lakeview Ambulance, and the St. Croix County Medical Examiner.

This incident represents the third traffic fatality recorded by St. Croix County in 2026.

This crash remains under investigation.
