SAWYER COUNTY (DrydenWire) - A report of a gunman in Sawyer County in the early morning hours of December 1st, 2025, led to a heavy law-enforcement response and felony charges after investigators say Chad Merritt, age 30, forced his way into a residence, threatened the occupant with a firearm, and fled with stolen property.
Merritt was sentenced in December 2024 for a Washburn County Conviction of Class H Felony Take and Drive Motor Vehicle Without Consent of the Owner.
According to the criminal complaint, this new Sawyer County incident triggered a SWAT deployment, a search warrant, and the eventual arrest of Merritt now faces multiple felony charges including Armed Robbery and Possession of Fentanyl.
