WISCONSIN -- See Tracks? Think Train® Week (formerly Rail Safety Week) takes place Sept. 15-21. The annual national safety campaign, led by Operation Lifesaver, focuses attention on the importance of making safe choices when driving or walking near railroad tracks and trains.
As part of the campaign, Wisconsin State Patrol officers in the Northwest Region are participating in Operation Clear Track on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Through education and enforcement, this proactive effort aims to reduce crashes, injuries and deaths near railroads.
Operation Clear Track targets specific crossings with significant levels of train and vehicle traffic. The following locations were identified in the Northwest Region:
- WIS 27 at Miner Ave in Ladysmith - Rusk County
- WIS 25 at WIS 35 in Nelson - Buffalo County
- County B at 628th Ave in Menomonie - Dunn County
Wisconsin State Patrol officers will be working enforcement details at the designated rail crossings looking for rail crossing safety violations. They will take enforcement action if needed and hand out informational cards with tips on rail crossing safety and the dangers of trespassing on railroad property with a goal of educating drivers and pedestrians on safe choices near railroads.
