BURNETT COUNTY — A probation compliance check at a Siren, WI, residence led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other controlled substances inside a home where two young children were living, according to authorities.

The investigation began on February 26, 2026, when the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office received information about a possible illegal firearms sale at the residence. One of the reported occupants was confirmed to be on felony probation, prompting law enforcement to conduct an Act 79 probation search at the home and subsequently execute a search warrant.

As a result of the investigation, Megan Kurkowski, age 37, is now facing multiple felony charges, including child neglect and possession of controlled substances.
