Woman Airlifted Following Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian Incident In Barron County

BARRON COUNTY -- A 31-year-old female from Almena, WI was airlifted from the scene of a vehicle-vs-pedestrian incident that occurred on Monday in the Village of Almena, according to a press release from the Turtle Lake Police Department.

On 05-25-2020 at 11:44AM the Turtle Lake Police Dept was notified of a Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Accident at Highway 8 and County P in the Village of Almena. When Officers arrived they found 31 year old Leeann Gharis of Almena had been struck by a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 52 year old Heidi Stores of Houlton, WI.

Several witness stated that Gharis was walking south bound from the holiday gas station and never looked or slowed for traffic on Highway 8. They advised the Jeep had braked, honked the horn before the collision occurred.

Gharis was airlifted from the scene.

The Turtle Lake Police Dept was assisted by the Barron County Sheriff Dept, Wisconsin State Patrol, Almena Fire Dept, Barron County area First Responders, Cumberland Ambulance and Life Link Helicopter.
