SAWYER COUNTY -- A plea of Not Guilty has been entered by a woman charged in a fatal school bus vs vehicle crash that occurred in Sawyer County in September 2020.

Sherrie Mataczynski was identified as the driver of the school bus involved in the fatal crash with a vehicle that occurred on September 10, 2020, according to a press release from the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office.

The school bus failed to yield the right of way when making a left turn onto State Highway 48, according to the Sheriff’s Department press release, and collided head-on with a 2007 Dodge Nitro that was operated by Renee C. Balko, 40, of Bruce, WI. Balko sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Online circuit court records show that a charge of Failure to Yield Right of Way was filed against Mataczynski on December 3, 2020. A plea of Not Guilty was entered on December 28, 2020.

Mataczynski is scheduled to appear again in January 2021.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
