Woman Dies In Paddle Boarding Incident On Crooked Lake

Burnett County, WI – A tragic incident occurred on Thursday at Crooked Lake near Siren, resulting in the death of a woman from Prior Lake, Minnesota, according to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office.

On May 30, 2024 at 2:56 p.m. Burnett County Dispatch received a call of a woman in distress on Crooked Lake near Siren on State Highway 35/70. A child reported that a woman had fallen off of her paddle board and he was unable to help her.

Law Enforcement, Siren Fire Department and North Ambulance responded to the scene A Good Samaritan with a kayak along with a rescue swimmer from the Siren Fire Department were able to bring the woman to shore.

Lifesaving measures were immediately started once on land.  North Ambulance transported the victim to North Air Care at the Burnett County Airport.  The victim was pronounced deceased at that time.

The victim has been identified as Jessica M. Lindberg, 35 years old, of Prior Lake, MN.

The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Siren Fire Department, North Ambulance and Air Care, Burnett County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Wisconsin DNR.

This case is still under investigation and no further details will be released at this time.
