Wednesday, December 7 is the date this year when the staff at Northwest Land and Recreation want you to stop in at their office, located on the north side of Spooner at 1001 N River Street from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, for a snack buffet celebrating their fifth year in business.
While you’re at it, grab a ticket or two off the counter and do some Christmas shopping for the child whose wishes are written on the ticket.
When Kyle and Kari Pierce bought the business in 2011 from the original owners who opened in 2008, the focus of the real estate business was primarily land sales. Kyle, a 1996 Spooner graduate and son of Jeff Pierce, saw an opportunity to offer more to the public.
His father, Jeff Pierce, has always been in construction and both Kyle and his brother were brought up in the business. They witnessed firsthand as children what an adventure it was to have their family buy land and build a cabin on it.
Now he and his staff of four agents and an office coordinator, are doing the same thing for their clients.
Land sales are still important, but so are established properties. They do such a good job matching people to their dreams; they were number two in sales this year in the Spooner reality business. Not bad for a five year old company.
To their credit, right from the very first year, they’ve not only hosted an open house each December, but they’ve aligned with that power house of an outreach coordinator, Dawn Schiesmann, the community services specialist from the Indianhead Community Action Agency, (ICAA) to supply gifts for kids at Christmas.
After applications are approved, names and items the kids (from birth to sixteen) want and need, along with their sizes, are printed on the tickets.
The community is then invited to grab a name or two and fill however much they can on the wish list. The packages need to be wrapped and returned to the realty office ready to go by Saturday, December 17. The following Monday they are all delivered to the ICAA Connections store on highway 70, east of Spooner, to be distributed just before Christmas.
You get to choose the name, choose the gifts, choose the wrapping paper and ribbon and choose the goodies you’d like to eat at the snack buffet.
Last year, Northwest Land and Recreation matched a record number of people with their dream property. Now they’re giving you the opportunity to do the same thing, matching a deserving child, over one hundred this year, with something nice for Christmas.
