Alice G. Norwood, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 at Our House Memory Care in Rice Lake, WI. She was born April 30, 1941 to Lawrence and Genevieve (Mitchell) Carroll in Beloit, WI. She attended catholic parochial school, where the nuns never quite knew what to do with her spirited personality.

Alice and her sister Kathryn spent many summers with their grandparents in Hollandale which became a 2nd home for her.

In July 1959 Alice met the love of her life, Duane “Dewey” at the Rock County Fair and on November 28, 1959 she was married in Beloit, WI and then they later started a family.

Alice devoted her life to her family. She showed her family what it means to love selflessly and fiercely. Alice enjoyed cooking for her family and had a passion for cleaning. Food is love language. She was never content to sit still when there was work to be done or someone needed a hand. Her house was always open, and every kid in Hixton knew they were home when walking through her door. Her favorite moments were spent with her 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Alice poured her heart into every meal she made for them, food = love, and she always had a spare popsicle in the freezer just in case. If the grandkids had an event, she and Dewey were there, wearing the school colors proudly cheering them on. Everyone called her grandma.

Alice spent much of her time decorating her home. Yes, she loved decorating for the holidays as it meant family time, but she had a gift for seeing the small details that changed the vibe of a room. She kept Dewey busy moving furniture or hanging a picture for her and her family. The two of them enjoyed hanging out in their yard filled with flowers - roses were her favorite.

Alice also loved music. Growing up with a strong faith, she found solace and strength in religious songs she knew by heart. She also loved dancing. You could find her and Dewey cutting a rug on the dance floor on a Saturday night.

Alice listened to music all day, singing to her favorite Neil Diamond or Elvis Presley song while doing chores around the house. She was most proud of her Irish/Celtic heritage. She will be remembered most for her heart and smile. She loved everyone she met and told them how wonderful they were. She is survived by her husband, Duane “Dewey” Norwood; 3 children, Dewey Norwood, Dan (Debbie) Norwood, and Denise (Dave) Peterson; 10 grandchildren, Tabitha (Phil), Tristan (Nick), Dylan (Sabrina), Travis (Kayleigh), Lana (Clinton), Luke (Chelsea), Lani, Jake (Juliet), Rachel (Matthew) and Alyssa; 14 great grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn (Douglas) Peterson; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Genevieve Carroll; 2 sisters, Marilyn Hopkins and Marguerite Isferding; and 2 brothers, John Carroll and Bill Carroll. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM Monday, July 13, 2026 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Dobie, WI, Father Dan Tracy officiating, with interment in the Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9-11AM Monday at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the family or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
