In Memory of Allan R. Barta

August 21, 1941 - November 6, 2025

Allan R. Barta passed peacefully on 6 November 2025 at 84 years of age.

Allan grew up in an extended family home in Berwyn, Illinois; in his early years, he lived with his parents – Edward and Mildred, older sister Laverne and his maternal aunt and uncles. His family started vacationing in northern Wisconsin in the 1930’s. They came to love Long Lake where they built a cabin and fished. Allan began visiting Long Lake before he turned one year old. He attended Morton High School, where he was a catcher on the baseball team – a position he also played at Beloit College, where he graduated in 1963.

Allan subsequently served on Beloit’s Executive Board. He attended the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and then took classes at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. Allan served in the Naval Air Reserves and flew AWAC missions over Cuba. Soon after, he met Judie, his wife of fifty-nine years, while taking jumping and dressage lessons in suburban Chicago. As newlyweds, they lived in the city, then moved to Oak Brook, IL and Hinsdale, where they raised their sons Phil (Kate) and Mike (Jen). They loved hanging out with their friends in the neighborhood, where there was always a good party or two on the weekends.

After twenty-one years of service, Allan retired from Chicago Extruded Metals Co. as Vice President, Administration. He was very active in community leadership roles: coaching baseball, serving as a Lodge Chief of the local Boy Scouts chapter, on the village’s board of trustees and as President of the Rotary Club of Cicero, among other community-based organizations. In 1993, Allan and Judie permanently moved from Hinsdale to Long Lake.

Allan continued to volunteer in local government and community organizations, many of which involve preserving and protecting Long Lake and its watershed. Allan was very active in the United Presbyterian Church of Rice Lake. Soon after moving to Long Lake, Allan and Judie began training and competing their labrador retriever in regional and national competitions.

He later served as a hunt test judge. He loved the friendships he made through dog training and hunt tests and his Long Lake and area neighbors. He enjoyed pheasant and waterfowl hunting with his chocolate labs, deer hunting, golf, tennis, gardening, and attending church and bible study.

As time progressed, his four grandchildren (Parker, Eva, Grace and Leo), soon became the joy of his life. Allan and Judie always looked forward to family visits, especially when everyone could be together at Long Lake.

In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to: United Presbyterian Church of Rice Lake; Hunt Hill Nature Center in Sarona; and the Haugen Ballpark Association (home of the Haugen Knights): Checks – Pay to the order of: Haugen Ballpark c/o CCF BANK Attn: Cole Paulson, PO Box 159, Barron, WI 54812.
