In Memory of Ardys Collins


July 15, 1927 - August 6, 2021

Ardys L. Collins, age 94, a resident of Webster passed away on August 6, 2021 at Regions Medical Center in St. Paul, MN.

Ardys was born July 15, 1927, in Webster, Wisconsin the daughter of Bessie and Louis Simmons.

LaVonne spent the last 18 years of her life living on the same street where she had been born in Webster, Wisconsin. Following high school, she worked as a dental assistant in Frederic, Wisconsin and in Minneapolis. She married Darrell Gene Collins in 1949. During their 48 year marriage, they lived in Illinois, New Mexico, Wyoming, California and Texas as Darrell worked as a salesman with Bethlehem Steel Company. They raised two sons, Steve and Jim. As a family, they enjoyed road trips to go camping and fishing with their small trailer and boat. In 1989, they built a home to retire in on Devils Lake in Webster.

LaVonne was an avid reader and crossword puzzle enthusiast. She enjoyed playing bridge. As an active member of Grace Methodist church she participated in Bible studies, delivering sermon tapes to shut-ins, and served on various committees. Before Darrell passed in 1997, they went on many road trips in the U.S. and Canada. Following Darrell’s death, LaVonne continued traveling with her girlfriends to Hawaii, Florida, Europe, the Panama Canal and Norway.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Louis Simmons, her husband, Darrell Simmons, sister, Vivian Peterson, and her great grandson, Isaiah Spahr.
LaVonne is survived by her brother, William (Ann) Simmons, her sons, Steve (Jean) Collins, and Jim (Julie) Collins, granddaughters, Sandy (Jacob) Spahr, Christy Collins, Amy (Alan) Miller, and four great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM (visitation 1-2 PM) at Grace United Methodist Church in Webster.

Arrangements were entrusted to Swedberg-Taylor Funeral Home, Webster.
