In Memory of Barbara A. Schafer

July 24, 1933 - August 5, 2023

The daughter of Alcott and Jesse Christensen, Barb grew up in Minneapolis.

She was a graduate of Swedish Hospital School of Nursing. After her graduation, she worked for a time as a nurse on the Northern Pacific Railroad. In 1957, she moved to St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, where she worked as a nurse and met and married her beloved husband, Ron. Barb and Ron lived for 12 years in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where she worked as a nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital and kept busy raising 5 children. In 1974 the couple returned to St. Croix Falls.

Barb enjoyed golfing, fishing, swimming, gardening and playing cards. She built a beautiful home of comfort and welcome for her family and friends. She gave love by doing and caring for others. In her loving and caring she was a force of nature. Her strong will enabled her to overcome many of life’s trials.

On June 23 of this year, Barb’s husband Ron passed away. Eight days after Rons funeral, Barb was in the hospital with a painful illness. After a courageous struggle to recover, she chose hospice and died surrounded by her loving family.

Barb out lived her brothers, Dusty and Bob and many dear friends and relatives.

Barb leaves behind 5 children; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and her card group, Connie, Sharon, Carol and Bonnie (her girlies)

We are beyond grateful to her for all that she did and the love that she gave. The loss of her leaves a big empty space in our world.
